Replace The Emergency Brake Handle On A Mini Cooper

Replace the Emergency Brake Handle on a Mini Cooper

If your want to spice up the interior of your Mini Cooper then changing the emergency brake handle can make a big difference to the look of the interior. If you want to personalize the look of the interior of your Mini with something unusual then the emergency brake handle is one place to start. These instructions apply to the 2006-2010 Mini Cooper hardtop, convertible and clubman.

Instructions

1. Remove the cap on the front of the emergency brake handle by prying it off with a screwdriver. Use the cloth between the screwdriver and the cap to prevent scratches. It is held in place by two plastic clips.

2. Slide the screwdriver underneath the tab holding the rest of the emergency brake handle in place. Once it is released, slide the emergency brake handle forward so it is loose.

3. Remove the boot if you need to. Press the screwdriver down between the oval plastic piece at the bottom of the boot and the console. Avoid pressing the screw driver between the boot and the oval plastic piece as they are glued together.

4. Turn the boot inside out and release the tie holding it to the emergency brake handle. Turn it right-side out and slide the emergency brake handle off the lever.

5. Slide the new emergency brake handle back in to place and into the shift boot. Turn the shift boot inside out and attach the handle to the shift boot. You may need to use the Allen wrench to tighten the new emergency brake handle in place. This depends on the model you purchased.

6. Turn the boot the correct way out and snap the oval plastic piece at the bottom of the boot into place in the console.

7. Slide the new emergency brake handle down until it snaps into place if it is still loose. This step is unnecessary if you tightened the emergency brake handle with the Allen wrench.

8. Clip the cap back into place at the front of the emergency brake handle. This may be unnecessary if you replaced the stock two-piece emergency brake handle with a one-piece handle.
