Reset The Bmw E46 Service Indicator

The BMW E46, the fourth-generation of BMW’s 3-series vehicles, has a service indicator light near the instrument panel cluster. This light is designed to alert the driver when the vehicle is due for service, preventing mechanical damage due to extended service intervals. Once this light is illuminated, it will remain on until the driver resets it. The procedure for resetting this light does not require any special automotive tools.

1. Turn off the ignition and place the car in park or first gear (manual transmission). Set the parking brake.

2. Press and hold the “Odometer/Trip Reset” button and turn the ignition to the “On” position at the same time.

3. Continue holding the “Odometer/Trip Reset” button until the message center display reads “OIL SERVICE,” “INSPECTION” or “RESET.”

4. Release the button, then press and hold the button again until the message center display reads “RESET” or “RE.”

5. Release the “Odometer/Trip Reset” button completely, then press and release it once. The message center should read “END SIA” if the procedure was completed correctly. If the display does not read “END SIA,” repeat Steps 2 through 5.
